Office 2000 and Compitibility Pack Problem

Hi,

My system is Windows XP SP2 using Office 2000 Standard. First, I made all
the Windows Priority updates, all the Office Priority updates (including
Office SP3 and except Outlook updates because it is not installed) and then I
downloaded and installed the FileFormatConverters.exe. After that, I made all
new Office Priority updates (including the Compatibility Pack SP2).

Then, I tested the following:

With Word 2000:
- Created (and saved) a ".doc" document.
- Right-clicked the ".doc" document and saved it as ".docx". Successful!

With Excel 2000:
- Created (and saved) a ".xls" document.
- Right-clicked the ".xls" document and saved it as ".xlsx". Successful!

With PowerPoint 2000:
- Created (and saved) a ".ppt" document.
- Right-clicked the ".ppt" document and saved it as ".pptx". FAILED!

With PowerPoint the convertion to a ".pptx" file returns the message "The
converter failed to save the file".

Is anyone know why the convertion works with Word and Excel but not with
PowerPoint?

Thanks.

Sometimes files get corrupted. Try this:

HTML "Round-tripping" to repair corruption

As an aside, is there some special reason you need to save PPT files as PPTX? I
can think of a reason or two why you might want to avoid doing this but offhand,
no reasons why it'd be necessary to do so. Now you've got me curious. ;-)

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your reply.

I tried the "Round-Tripping" repair but it doesn't change anything. I still
get the same message from the converter.

For your curiosity, right now I have no particular reasons for creating
".pptx" files. I simply discovered the problem while I was doing some
functional tests after the installation of the converter. I just try to find
out why the converter works correctly with Word and Excel files but not with
PowerPoint files. Because it's for functional tests purpose, my PowerPoint
file is only one slide with a single shape in its middle. That's it. Nothing
fancy.

You wouldn't think that'd be enough to make it fall over, would you?

Odd indeed.
