Thank you for your post.
Based on my research, I suggest you carry out the following troubleshooting
scenarios to resolve the problem.
1. Close Word, and find all normal.dot files on your machine and then
delete them. Restart Word. The normal.dot will be recreated. Does the
problem still occur?
2. Please use the "a" command-line switch to launch Word:
2.1. Click the Start, and then click Run.
2.2. Type the "Winword /a" in the name box. (Without quotation mark, but
there is a space between "winword" and "/a")
Does the problem occur?
3. Please follow these steps to edit the registry and restore these keys to
default values.
3.1. Click Start -> Run -> Type in "regedit" -> Click the open button to
open the registry editor.
3.2. Locate to the following subkey in the registry.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word
3.3. Please click the Edit-->Delete to delete the all subkeys.
3.4. Run Word and please let me know if the problem still appears.
4. To clear the Startup folder in Word.
4.1. Quit all Microsoft Office applications.
4.2. Go to the following folders, and then clear the folders.
C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Startup
