Office 2000 and XP on the same machine a no no?

You can have both versions on the same OS partition but only one version of
Outlook. Install the oldest first, then patch, then the newest (selecting a
custom installation) and then patch that one as well.

No, not that I recall - you will need to use the start menu or label your
different version programs on the Office Shortcut Bar.
