Hello, a weird one this. We have Office 2000 Std & Pro SR1 on our work PC's.
We have a GPO that gives restricted user rights to all except admins. After
the recent Office security patches we are finding that on first launch after
patch deployment and reboot Office is wanting to run through the
installation/setup again, but of course as restricted users this won't work.
So we log in as admins and launch Word/Excel and let it run through setup.
But here's the killer.....when the user with restricted rights logs back in
Office is nowhere to be seen. It's not listed in Programs or Add/Remove etc.
Now I know that's a registry issue, as the Office program folder is clearly
there in C:\Programs, but if you click on say word.exe it still won't launch.
Clearly no registry entries are accessable for restricted users.
Any ideas where in the registry we should be looking. Why would it mess up
like this after the patches?
I have run Sysinternals Regmon, but Office creates/accesses tons of registry
keys/values when you launch it or do anything, and we can't see the wood for
the trees so to speak (sorry, an old English saying that
)
