I have disabled the plug-in DLL (I'm running Norton Antivirus 2005 by the
way) and still no luck. I also tried setting the graphics hardware
acceleration back but still no luck. I found my Normal.dot file and renamed
it, but no luck. Ahhh! Such a frustrating problem. Let me try to explain
it again. Word opens and generally functions normally except if I try to
open the help file, it freezes and won't do it. also when I copy graphs from
excel into word there is more freezing when I try to re-save, oh and the
problem of not being able to see the Office assistant whe I hit 'show' but I
can hear him tapping on the screen and making zooming noises on arrival.
Thanks for all your help so far Echo!

Did you also disable the plug-in DLL? If not, please do.
This also could be a simple display issue. Try turning your hardware
acceleration down as described here:

I'm always amazed at how many bizarre problems that fixes.
Regarding your Normal.DOT file not being found, it's possible it's a hidden
file, and you specified that Search not look in hidden files. I think it's
generally located somewhere like C:\Documents and
Settings\Username\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates, so you might look
there on your system.

Disabling the office plug-in did not change anything. I was searching
trouble shooters and wondered if my Normal.dot file might be
corrupted,
when
I tried to search the file in my loca drive it doesn't exist so I can't
rename it! Any help muchly appreciated!

hear
the office assistant tapping on the screen, but he does not appear when I
click 'show'... Please help!
Are you using Norton antivirus? If so, disable the Office plug-in
(and
make
sure the DLL is unregistered).
