OFFICE 2000 DAUNTED newbie

iglimpse

Apologies if I have put this in the wrong place, looking for very basic
guidance here! with a number of different queries.

Purchased Office 2000 a while back, only really used it for word processing.
Now going to be working from home a lot more. Currently use Outlook Express
6 but would prefer to use the other e mail facility (? MS outlook) because it
comes with the calendar / notes etc which would be more useful to me.

However, at the moment I cannot acivate this, although I can see the inbox
etc. I do not know how to how to make this my default e mail. How difficult
is it to transfer everything across from one to the other?

I have looked around the MS Office site, there appears to be a lot of
updates available for Office 2000 but I am unsure which ones to download
(there are loads). Which ones are the most useful and are the updates free??

I could probably do with some sort of tutorial for Office 2000...if only I
could find it!!

Any help much apprecated.

Talk to your ISP about switching from Outlook Express to Outlook. Mine
doesn't support Outlook so if I had any questions, they wouldn't help me. (I
actually prefer OE because I can access my email and newsgroups all in one
screen.)

Updates are free, upgrades are not.

Google for the tutorials that are online. Even if it says a newer version,
try it. There are differences but chances are there are enough similarities
to get you going with the basics.

To make Outlook 2000 your default email program go to Internet Options,
Program tab. There you will find a selection box to select your default
email program.

If by activate, you mean you mean configure Outlook 2000 to send and receive
email from your ISP you need to enter the same mail account settings that
you are currently using in Outlook Express. You can find the Outlook
Express settings under Tool Accounts. Look at the Properties of the mail
account you are currently using. Worst case, you just need to copy the
settings and in Outlook 2000 establish a mail account with corresponding
settings. Not using that version, but I suggest you look under Tools or
check Outlook 2000 help. First check the Outlook 2000 File Menu for an
import entry. Outlook 2003 has a import selection for Internet Mail
settings that copies the mail settings from Outlook Express.

As for updates, IMO, if you are not sure, just install all of the updates
offered. Especially the Service Packs {SPs}.

If you have Windows XP, or another compatible version of Windows, you may
want to consider one of the upgrade editions of Office 2003.

Thanks, you are right, they do not support MSOffice e mail but prepared to
accept that, for the adavantages of email, calendar al in one place. Also,
workplace uses same system.

Hi Don...after more info! Have downloaded updates for OFFICE 2000, (not
noticed anything though). Other downloads ask for verification but I cannot
complete verification, gives a number of reasons for this but only one that
fits me is that software is too old. Is this true. Not in a position to pay
for upgrades at the moment.

MS asked me to verify my product, took me through the process and then could
not complete it, looks as though it was telling me OFFICE 2000 just too old
now!

Lets try this again - specifically what is the message you get...and when do
you get it?

Why so patronising ? I made it quite clear I was a newbie to all this. You
will note that I had this problems nearly a week ago. It was suggested I
could update things with some additional downloads. I tried but MS asked me
to go through a product verification process first, which it could not
complete for some reason. I assume because my product is quite old. So no
downloads but I have managed to convert over to MS Outlook, so problems
sorted.

The verification process did not provide an error message as such. Time
pressures, don't want to repeat the process
