Office 2000 doc files will not open.

Word docs seem to have gone corrupt. The following Error Signature appears:

AppName: winword.exe
AppVer: 9.0.0.8216
ModName: mso9.dll
ModVer: 9.0.0.6926
Offset: 0018d036

Files can still be opened using Winword or Word Perfect, but formatting is
lost. I have tried repairing Office and a file recovery program (R-Word)
with no results. Anyone have any suggestions?
