Office 2000 does not load

Something happened to my Microsoft Office 2000 Pro, I
cannot open any of my word documents. When I try I get a
message that reads: "this file does not have a program
associated with it for performing this action. Create an
association in the Folder Option control panel". When I
try to reload Office 2000 from it's original CD, I get
this message: "This patch package could not be opened.
Contact the application vendor to verify windows installer
patch package". What "patch" I didn't install any patch
that I know of. I can't open documents, I can't reinstall
Office 2000... what do I do... Please help.

I have exactly the same problem. I went to the MS
Knowledge base and found one article KB 294975 that has
the precise symptom but is wor Win 95/98 installed from a
network. The solution did not work for me but you can
check it out.
