Office 2000 hangs

TIA After uninstalling office 97 and installing 2000 all
office programs and IE hang on opening. For example in
Word it opens to the normal screen with toolbars and
rulers but you never get a cursor. After a 10 minute wait
the only resolution is the 3 fingered salute. Running Win
98 SE as an OS.
