Office 2000 Help Broken

I'm running Office 2000 Pro and Windows XP Pro. For no obvious reason,
Office help stopped working. The box where I enter a search term comes up
fine, and I can enter a term and get the usual array of choices. When I
click on one, the help window opens, but remains blank,and the dialog box
saying this application has encountered an error and needs to close comes
up. I click on ok and the help window closes. I have run Office 2000 setup
with no effect.

Does anyone know of a solution?
