Office 2000 - install errors and all updates ?

P

Peter Richards

Hi,

Recently installed Office 2000 on a Win95b computer. Just a few
questions please.

1. In the log file for the install, there were loads of errors, like

DEBUG: Error 2370: Invalid CRC checksum value for EXCEL.EXE file. Its
header says 7169659 for checksum, its computed value is 7204219.
Internal Error 2370: Please contact product support for assistance.
DEBUG: Error 2942: BindImage action has not been executed on
EXCEL.EXE file.
Internal Error 2942: Please contact product support for assistance.
DEBUG: Error 2370: Invalid CRC checksum value for FPCUTL.DLL file.
Its header says 523048 for checksum, its computed value is 528424.

Property(C): UNQUALIFIEDOSERROR = This product cannot be installed on
this computer. This product requires at least Windows 95, Windows NT
Version 4.0, or Windows 2000 or later.

and other types of errors. What do I do about these ?

2. From this
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdate/CD010224971033.aspx

I see there is a lot there. For Office 2000, there are service
releases and also service packs. Do I have to start from the earliest,
or is there a final service release to do the lot in one hit ?

Thanks,

Peter

I am not an expert. I just received some valuable help from this group and
will try to repay in kind.

I run Office 2000 and have SR-1 and SR-3 for it on CD. I found the ~$10 cost
for the SR CDs worth it just to avoid the lengthy downloads when I must
re-install something.

From the CDs, it is necessary to install SR-1 before SR-3 can be installed.
Once SR-3 is installed, the online updates after SR-3 are mostly small
security patches that download and install quickly.

The Microsoft Update page at
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us can do
the updates automatically.
