I am trying to install Office 2000 Premium on a Dell
laptop running Windows XP Professional.
All of the steps seem to work fine and no error messages
are received during the installation.
At the end of the installation I am informed by a window
pop that the installation was completed.
Also the files that were on the hard drive (laptop was
part of a severance package where the Windows XP OS and
personal files were left on the laptop and Office XP was
removed by the company's IT department), that appeared in
a different format/icon before the Office 2000
installation now appear with there regular/normal Word or
Excel icon.
The problem is that when I click directly on the Program
in the Start menu or directly on a file, nothing happens.
Well not exactly, I see the hourglass appear for a
fraction of a second and then it goes away and the program
does not start. I never get an error message of any kind.
Up until last year, I used this Office 2000 Premium
package on my old laptop with Win98-SE before changing to
newer equipment so I know my CD's are fine and that my key
is good.
I tried reinstalling and doing a repair, but it's still
the same.
Considering that the configuration of the laptop was done
by the IT group of the company where my wife was working,
so was the removal of the Office XP (dont know why they
had to remove it,) would there be something in that
configuration or something else that I should look at,
other then the Office installation.
Though I am a knowledgeble user of all of the programs in
Office 2000 (Word, Excel, Power Point etc...) I do not
feel I have the knowledge to get out of a situation if
ever I encounter a problem while upgrading to a more
recent SP. So for now an upgrade is not an option.
Does anyone have one or more suggestions?
Thank you in advance.
