Office 2000 Premium & Brother MFC 5840CN

Hi. I have just purchased a new Compaq Presario Laptop. OS Vista Home
Premium. I have installed MS Office 2000 Premium and it all works ok except
for printing (word 2000) - it just doesn't. It goes as far as spooling, job
pending then just stops and nothing happens. I can print in all my other
applications ok. I downloaded the lastest driver and software for the
printer. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it too. I have even gone back
to the shop where I purchased my laptop and they installed another brother
printer and it printed ok. We are stumped. Anyone got any ideas? I have even
installed Office SP3. Any help or suggestions would be really appreciated.
Thanks.

Have you visited Office update, and installed the various updates, as I
believe Office2k updates are no longer available from the Office Update scan
engine

hi DL. Thanks for responding. Yes I had updated to SP3 Office Update. I have
since found in the printer options to 'print directly to printer' button
which I can enable. However when I do this it takes a long time before I can
resume my work. If I put it back to 'Spool' it doesn't print but only spools
then disappears - but only in Word! Seems a little strange to me. So for the
time being I am going to leave the setting and change it only for word when
needed - unless of course I can find a solution. Any more ideas?
