I have a new computer with no Microsoft Off. programming. My old computer had
Win 98, I have a 2 disc set for office 2000 prof, is this disc set ok to load
on my new computer with XP?

If it isn't an OEM copy that was licensed with your old computer, it should
be okay to install it on your new computer. You will want to check the
license agreement to see how many systems it can be installed on; you may
need to remove it from the old computer to be compliant with the terms of
your license agreement--

On the front of the discs it states "not for retail or oem distribution".
Would this be compatabile with XP? Is it safe for my new computer? There is
no written license and I am afraid to put in my computer so I do not know
what the agreement says or how many computers it would be installed on.

Does it say "for distribution only with a new PC", or something like that?
The End User License Agreement is in electornic form on the CD itself. If
so, it's probably tied to your old PC and not legally installed on a new
system. There's no reason to be afraid of putting in the CD and looking for
the license agreement.

No it does not have "for distribution only with a new PC" however it does
have "designed for Microsoft NT and 98". Word Perfect office 2000 states
"OEM" on the front of disc but the Microsoft Office 2000 Prof. does not.

I'd put in the CD, read the EULA to make sure I'm legal, and then try to
install it, then.

As for whether it will run on XP - the answer is yes. It runs on Vista too.
The only question would be the licensing. Otherwise you should have no
problem running it on Windows XP. I would make sure to do all of the Service
Pack updates though. There were three of them and since it is no longer
supported through Microsoft Update or Office Update, you will need to
download each of them separately and install them that way.
