Office 2000 Pro to Office 2003 anything???

I am desperately trying to upgrade my current version of Office 2000 to
Office 2003. Being computer illiterate, I am under the impression that I can
do this automatically??? Can anyone please point me in the right direction
to do this. I thought I had tried everything, OBVIOUSLY NOT!!, lol I do own
the Office 2000 version and am using Windows XP Home Edition that was on my
computer when I bought it from HP.
I seem to have Office 2003 on my computer, but when I click on it it tells
me that it cannot open because there is another dialogue box open, close it
and try again???

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Do what automatically? To upgrade you need the CDs. What do you mean by
"seem to have Office 2003"? Did you pay for it because Office is always an
additional cost but there is often a trial version that is preinstalled on
new computers.

Hello again:
I have the genuine MS Office 2000 Professional installed on my computer. I
tried opening up a blank document to do some typing and got the message
Office 3 "Windows Installer preparing to install" then I am taken to a
screen to fill out the registration. When I put in my 25 numbers etc it
tells me it is not a valid number. Presently I seem to have 2 problems - (1)
Why am I getting this message when I try opening my Office 2000 pro, and (2)
why am I being advised that office 2003 is trying to install?
I just opened start/programs and finally noticed a folder "MS Office (60 day
trial) but when I try to do anything with this I am taken back to the
registration screen and the same problem, "numbers not valid. "

Am I totally stupid or greatly confused and frustrated?

(1) You should have uninstalled the Office 2003 free trial software
before you installed your copy of Office 2000.
(2) See answer to (1) above.
(3) Do you really want an answer to that?
