Office 2000 Pro update problem

I am running Office 2000 Professional on a Windows 98 system. IE6 is
installed. I ran the SR1 update from CD about 2 years ago. I have
recently attempted to update to the current SR version, but have run
into problems, as follows:

When attempting to update via MS update site the auto update scan fails.

When going directly to download current updates the active links do not
work and I can not download the updates via IE6.

I was able to download all updates via Netscape from the MS Download site.

When attempting to install the SR1a (o2ksr1a) update it fails and gives
me the following message: "You already have Microsoft SR-1"

When attempting to apply sp2upd.exe I receive the message "The update
can not be applied" This occurs right after the computer attempts to
search "A" drive.

The original installation was via CD and there should not be a search
for software on "A" Driver.

Attempts to run the SPK3 update produce the same results as the SP2
attempts.

If anyone has any information on how to fix this issue please respond
via email at (e-mail address removed)

Thank you

I hope I'm understanding you.

If you have trouble using the update feature go to download pages and
download the updates and save to your disk. Thjen run the intallation files
they will work better. Try it.

Good luck.

I have a very similar problem with the same software.
Many people posting to this site do too. It's clearly a
Microsoft created problem, and I've notified them about 7
times, but so far nothing. My advice is for everyone to
hammar away at Microsoft until they properly respond with
a fix. It's their responsibility.
