Office 2000 problems

Hello,
One of my customers has a problem that I would like some help with. Some
time ago, they bought a computer with Office 2000 SR1 installed on it. They
would like to apply updates and additional features to the Office package.
Unfortunately, the Office CDs that shipped with the computer are the
standard Office 2000 (not SR1). What I think happened is that they purchased
the PC when the vendor was going through a refresh cycle of the mass-loaded
machine images and their CD inventory. Regardless, I can not update, change
or remove any of the Office products from the PC because everything I try
comes back with the message that the installer needs the data1.msi file from
the SR1 installation CD. Is there anything that can be done about this
issue, short of manually deleting the files and going on a registry bug hunt
to remove any Office entries that I can find?

Thanks,
Joe

I think my two options are going to be:
1. Try to install Office from the CD again, to overwrite the SR1 install
with the base package, and then try the upgrade game, or
2. Install the base package to somewhere as an "administrative install
point", apply the SR1 update to that installation point, and retrieve the
data1.msi file.

Isn't this a fun way to spend our time?

Joe
