Office 2000 Professioanl Re-install: "invalid CD key" issue

B

I'm sure this has been answered before, but I can't find it...

Re-installed XP Home from OEM recovery disk (fresh start!)
Then, in order:
NAV 2007
Wireless adapter utility
Ad Aware
Spybot
Windows Defender

Then when I attempt to re-install O2K, I get the "invalid CD key" error.
After retries, and web search, I find
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/842566

Following these instructions installs the suite, but when I run any of the
programs (i.e, Word), I get the CD key dialog box, and guess what? I get the
same "invalid CD key" error!

I'm stuck!

Thanks in advance for any help!

Many times! Actually since the key worked with the command line approach, I
would think that confirms it...no?

Have you double-checked the product key against the label?

I've NEVER entered a product key in a command line. I install from the CD
and then wait for the dialog box that prompts me for the info.

Perhaps try installing with the NAV and other security softwares
disabled. They frequently interfere with the registry changes/updates
needed for software installation/activation.

Where did you get the Office product key from? Did you get it off the
bottom /side / top of the PC case? If so, that is usually with Windows
product key and not the Office product key. In my experience, most
OEM's include the Office product key on a piece of paper that came
with your PC.

Thanks to all the repliers.

1. The command line entry of the key is the suggestion from the KB article
linked earlier.
2. This is a reinstall; this CD key worked fine last time.
3. NAV was installed last time, but I'll try that..
