Office 2000 Professional installation problem...

P

Patrick

I just wiped my computer clean and tried re-installing Office 2000
Professional. Putting Disk One in the CD drive, I get nothing...it doesn't
recognize a CD at all. Yet if I put a different CD in, it works just fine.
Hmmm...

So, I put Disk One in my laptop and it works...so it's not a problem of a
damaged CD.

What in the world is going on here?

Hi Patrick,

Make sure the CD is clean. If that doesn't work, you could copy the CD's contents to a USB drive via your laptop, then copy the USB
drive's contents to your PC's HDD and install from there. Note that you'll probably want to have the install CD's contents on your
HDD in any event, since you'll have to re-install the various SR/SP pathes and the later updates, some of which require the original
install files. You could install direct from the USB drive, but having the lot on your HDD makes later maintenance easier.

The CD is clean...it works on my laptop just fine.

Something is going on with my PC CD drive and I can't figure out what.

When CD drives start going bad they will read some disks and not read
others. They are real cheap and easy to replace. You could even upgrade to
a DVD drive or a DVD burner in its place. A DVD drive could read your
Office 2000 CD too.

Thanks...I may do that. I just find it odd that this is the ONLY CD it's not
reading.

With the CD in the drive, can you view the contents in explorer?
