Maybe it's about time to set up a regular back up routine for your data.
I recommend an external hard drive in a USB case. Remember, back up is a
computer user's best friend.

Once you've done that, uninstall 2000, reboot, and install 2003.

i'm completly backed up, let me re phrase... and i think you answered my
question?
do i un-install the 2000 then install the 2003.. then will the 2003 pick up
the 2000?
or do i install the 2003 and and walk through any instructions thereafter
that i need to know in order to copmbine the data from the 2000 to the 2003?

one note that i failed to mention before is that my laptop is an hp and my
home puter is a gateway. the 2003 came with the gateway.

Read the CD label (for use on a new computer) or the EULA on the Gateway for
Office 2003. If it says OEM you can't install it on the laptop as it is
tied forever to the first computer it is installed on. If the Certificate
of Authenticity specifies FPP on the label's lower right then it is a retail
version and you can install it on the laptop.

"Data" from Office 2000 is 100% compatible with Office 2003. This includes
documents, stationery and settings. You can do it either way. Office 2003
install has a check box to remove any previous versions or to leave them in
place if you want to do it that way. Otherwise if you remove Office 2000
first you won't lose any work.

Cheers,

Earle

It doesnt matter what version of Office you install, or uninstall, your data
remains intact
