Office 2000 programs have trouble opening

D

Daniel

I am currently trying to figure out what is going on with a few computers running Microsoft Office 2000. The problem that is ocurring is this: If you try to open a file, let's use Word document as an example, it will open the program improperly and give an error along the lines of "System cannot find the file specified.".
However, what makes this an unusual problem is that if you open the program you are trying to use BEFORE trying to open the program, it will work just fine. This error occurs with most programs in the Officem suite.
I have tried reloaded Office itself, and it does not appear to help. Changing versions of Office is not an option. Any suggestions how I might fix this?

Hi Daniel,

If you are opening the files outside the application (other than using
File/Open) then it sounds like the File Association needs to be
recreated.

Go to Start/Run and run the following:

winword /r
excel /regserver
powerpnt /regserver
msaccess /regserver

Note that there is a space before the forward slash.

I only get errors like this one when trying to do this. Microsoft Access can't find the database file 'regserver.mdb'
