Office 2000 "Save As" hangs temporarily

I'm hoping someone may have an answer for me as I'm really stumped on
this one. For some reason, Office 2000 applications (i.e. Word,
Excel, Outlook) now temporarily hang for about 10 seconds when
choosing "Save As". After the initial save, this never happens again
while the application is loaded, nor does this happen for a normal
save of a previously saved file.

I've checked for Trojans, Viruses (none) and have no unreachable
networked drives. I also have the latest Microsoft patches and
recently tried the Office 2000 SP3 update which did nothing. I've
also tried the /unreg /reg options for Word/Excel.

Any suggestions are highly appreciated here as I'm going nuts wasting
time trying to find the answer to this one.

A disconnected or un-available network drive?

I'm having almost exactly this same problem with Office
XP, but it's more like a 2 to 3 minute hang. And the
network drive is available and connected.

I have no network drives to worry about -- this is the server of a
home network and only have Internet connectivity to contend with.

I'm aware of various hang issues with XP that supposedly were resolved
with one of the recent Microsoft patches but I can't find anything on
Windows 2000. Everything I've read seems to point to network
connections.

At this point I may have to wait and see if a future patch fixes this
problem or just re-format sometime down the road when I get 2-3 days
to kill (ha!)

As I had responded earlier to a posting in a different group (I had
posted a similar message to microsoft.public.win2000.file_system), a
second defrag on the hard drive actually took care of the problem.
