Office 2000 Service Pack problem.

K

Kev

I am running MS Office 2000, Service Packs up to and
including 3 successfully installed some months back, no
problems with anything running.

The other week I installed from the original Office 2000
Developer Tools CD-ROM the Developer Toolkit, and I
believe from around that time I have been getting the
occasional message when loading several of the other
Office programs a message saying:
"The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or
other removable disk that is not available.
Insert the Microsoft Office SR-1 Disk 2" disk and click
OK.
Use feature from [drop-down list appears] "Microsoft
Office 2000 Disc 2".

If I OK this it then says that it wants to run the
file "data2.msi" and wants its location; this particular
file is NOT one extracted from from the SR1a installation
file.

If I "blow out" of this enforced installtion routine I
get a message "Error 1706. No valid source could be found
for product Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Disk 2. The Wndows
installer cannot continue." The program will then run OK.

I assume that my installing of the Developer Tools has
probably "back-graded" my Office 2000 SP3 installation,
however, trying to re-run SP 1a or indeed 2 or 3 has
failed.

Any thoughts on how to sort this problem out?

Many thanks.

Hi, Kev,

It's probably looking for something on your original Office Disk 2 (the SR-1
designation is almost always incorrect in these cases). What happens if you
insert Disc 2 from your original installation media?

I

Installer starts when opening Office app

Hi,

I'm experiencing the same kind of problem. When I start any office 2000 application it immedeately starts to a update procedure. I can click cancel several times and the program runs OK. The final error message is something as in the first post, about an error 1706.

We did the following with no succes.

When it asks for a CD rom we insert the original CD rom. It isn't recognized as a valid one.

Re-installed SR1 - no succes

Tried the repair option - no succes

Can I try to completely uninstall it, and re install it again.

Thanx in advance

Sander
