After installing SP-3 Office 2000 I get
Word - "The file (filename) is not available." Microsoft Word 2000
(9.0.6926 SP-3)
I can still open the .doc documents in WordPad.
Everytime I exit Word its propmting me to overright Normal.dot!
Excel - "Unable to read file." on start up - Microsoft Excel 2000 (9.0.6926
SP-3)
I was able to open these before.
I can't even open files that I created in Word after the update!

Same issue with Powerpoint, but I don't seem to have an issue with Access!
I can read in my old Excel files into Access as tables (at least the few I
tried)!

I am on Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002 SP-2
I have Symantec Antivirus corporate edition 8.1.0.825 with virus files as of
12/27/04 (thanks to my job) - tried disabling it - but still got same
message/problem
Help!

Search for the OFFICEAV.DLL file on your system (include hidden and system
files/folders). If you find it, note the directory path where it is located.
Close all open applications. From Windows, click on Start | Run. In the
Open dialog box, type the command (including quotes):

regsvr32 -U "C:\<path>\OFFICEAV.DLL"

Replace <path> with the directory path for your OfficeAV.dll file. Click on
OK. You only have to run this command once (not every time you restart your
computer). You should get the message: "DllUnregisterServer in
C:\<path>\OfficeAV.dll succeeded."

THANK YOU - sorry for the second post - I forgot to include the antivirus
info.
I thought (know!) I uninstalled Norton Antivirus 2003 when I installed the
Symantec version (its not a valid selection in the add/remove applications
list) but apparently all the dll's are not eliminated with the uninstall.

Your prompt reply was much appreciated and all appears functional again

Jon (Nermal and Pooky too)
