Office 2000 SP3 Administrative Install update

M

Max Soullard

Hi
I have Office 2000 Select CD. I followed all the instructions on the
KB266323 and created an administrative installation on my server. I am now
trying to update my administrative installation from SR1 to SP3. But every
time I receive the following error message:

**********************************************************
The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service
because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may
update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be
upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.
**********************************************************
I am using the following command line:

Msiexec /a \\server\share\data1.msi /p \\server\share\mainsp3ff.msp
shortfilenames=1 /qb

I have the SP3 administrative install: o2ksp3a.exe 58.1 MB.

Article KB279181 has this error message but the solution is the installation
of SR1.
which my central installation already contains.

Any help will be much appreciated
Thanks
Max

Hi Max,

Are you placing the .MSP patch file in the
same location as your Admin point? If so
try placing it outside of the Admin Point tree
and then applying the update (I'm assuming you're
replacing "\server" and "\share" with their actual
names as they appear on your system.

Hi Max,

What version of Windows are you using and what
version of the MS Installer?

From your details I'm assuming you renamed the .MSI file
as part of Setup.ini prior to creating a new Office Admin point
from the May 2000 Select CD and that the download was the
English language one for SP3?

Have you been able to successfully deploy and run the apps
on a client computer from this admin point?

You can also get the error if the download was corrupted.

You may want to try turning on the verbose logging option
in your command line

/L*V C:\o2ksp3log.txt

to see what file the update may be balking on.
