Office 2000 SR-1 Premium Problems

Bill

I use Office 2000 SR-1 Premium -- supplied by my office
for -- work at home on my home computer. Every time I try
to update to SR-1a or anything else, it tells me it can't
because it can't find the Office 2000 product, which is
in the damned CD player. It appears to not like the fact
this is the "Premium" version. Yet when I search for
Office 2000 Premium updates, MS support takes me right
back to the same download areas that tell me the CD is not
the "right" one.

Does anyone know how the to get around this
insanity?

Oh, yeah, one other thing: I tried to install
the "Administrator update" for the Office 2000 Premium
product. It downloaded a 50+-meg set of files, but when I
ran setup, it said it couldn't find a DATA1 install file,
and that this problem could occur if I had at some point
done some upgrade path I have no clue what it is talking
about.

Does anyone have any idea how the heck I can do the
updates? I even uninstalled everything, cleaned the
registry (using System Mechanic), etc., and reinstalled
Office 2000 SR-1 Premium, yet the MS Office update site
still won't allow me to install any of the SR or SP
updates ... ???

Thanks much.

Can't help much other than to say the exact same thing happened to me and after about 3 hours of trying I just gave up. Here's one q for you - do you know what version of Office 2003 to use to upgrade 2000 Premium? I've got a copy of 2003 Professional but I'm not sure if its the correct version.

Bill -

I can't help much but can only say that I have a similar problem. I have
Office 2000 SR-1 Premium and cannot do any updates or removed the damned
thing. Every time I try to do anything it keeps telling me that it can't
locate or doesn't have access to the patch package or it doesn't exist.
I have even reinstalled the installer and it still didn't help. I have
been working on this problem for a week. I can find knowledge base
articles that correspond to the error message I get but I have tried all
of the supposed fixes and nothing has worked. Its good to know that
others are having the same problem. If someone solves these problems
please post.
