Office 2000 SR-1 Update did not complete successfully.

When trying to get the SR-1 update from the office website I get "MS Office
2000 SR-1 did not complete successfully. ... See the log file: Office 2000
SR-1 Setup(XXXX).txt"
Things that I have tried:
My disc is an upgrade but it did not ask for the full version office 97 disc
when I installed. So I uninstalled Office 2000 and installed on application
from the office 97 disc (Excel) then reinstalled 2000. That did not work. I
still get the same upgrade error message. I can't find this log text file in
searching the hard drives.
I've tried turning off all other programs, disabling Norton Internet
Security & Antivirus when attempting to start the update. That did not help
either.
So how can I get these office upgrades?

P.S. The SR-1 disc one update gives that message and will not download but
the disc two update did download but did not install.
