office 2000 sr-1

I downloaded SR1,when prompted, put in the program disk. After install I was
prompted to restart, after restart the machine will only go as far as the
blue windows screen with no box to log on. Any help with this one?

My system is XP SP2 on a notebook. Tried safe mode, last good start up and
command prompt, it will go to that screen but nothing .The log on screen
minus the log in box is all I get on attempt to do a normal start up. Does
this mean this machine is finished?
