Office 2000 (SR-1a) Update Step-by-Step Installation Instructions

The instructions are straightforward. In those instructions Microsoft
recommends to also update Internet Explorer once the Office 2000 has been
successfully installed. This is described in step 11. However, when I try
to return to the Office 2000 SR-1a update to repeat steps 1 through 4 in
order to get to and click on the "Update Windows" icon, the system will not
allow me to do so. A window pops up that tells me that I already have the
SR-1 update installed. I believe either the instructions are wrong or at
some point in the past I upgraded Internet Explorer when prompted by Windows
Update and therefore, no further upgrade is necessary. Anybody with a
similar experience?

Internet Explorer is not a part of Office, so why are you using Office
Update to update a part of Windows, not Office? Use Windows Update.

The "Update Windows" Icon on the Office Update page will be "greyed
out" if the version of Internet Explorer on your machine is newer than
the minimum-version-number coded in that page (which I think is MSIE
5, but it's been so long since I've checked that I'm not certain any more).

It is perfectly-and-utterly-normal for the "Update Windows" icon to be
greyed-out on the Office Update page for all but the most-ancient of
Windows Installs. Anyone who has gone to Windows Update and
gotten any of the Windows Updates newer than a year old will have
a version of Internet Explorer which causes the Office Update page
to have its "Update Windows" Icon greyed-out.

As long as you have run both the Windows Update and Office Update
procedures to completion (so they show a response of "No Critical
Updates" from WU and "Your machine is completely up to date" from
OU, then you are good to go.

Best I can do for now. <tm>
