Office 2000 SR-1a update

B

Barrie

I have scanned for updates in the Office Catalogue and
advised that I need to download the SR-1a update.
I follow the instructions but after hitting the Update
Office icon I get an error message,

Update did not complete successfully, see log file
Office 2000 SR-1a setup (0017).txt I've now tried 17
times.

I can't seem to read the log file to find the problem.

I'm running a very early version of Office 2000Pro.

Help.

Hi, Barrie,

What do you mean that you can't read the log file? Can you not find it,
does it not open, or is it unintelligible techno-data?

Barrie

I searched but I can't find it

Ah, okay, thanks.

Depending on your operating system, the file will be located in a different
place. I found mine by doing a search:

From the Start Menu, I chose "Start | Search | For files or folders..."
Then in the "Search for files or folders named" box, I typed in office*.txt
In the "Look in" box, I selected Local Disk (C:)
Then I clicked "Search".

If this doesn't work, in the "Search Results" window, use "Tools | Folder
Options", and click the "View" tab. Look under:

- Files and Folders

then

- Hidden files and folders

and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected. Try the
search again.

You found me <g>.

Launch Word, and go into Help | About. Does the version say that it's
updated to SR-1? If not, let's keep going.

The log file says that you have already updated Internet Explorer. That
shouldn't be a problem.

Okay, so you got this error:

Error: The file, C:\DOCUME~1\Barrie\LOCALS~1
\Temp\sr1patch\{4A0B3872-EE09-11D3-AED5-00C04F022C53},
has an invalid size.

Go into that folder and rename the file
{4A0B3872-EE09-11D3-AED5-00C04F022C53} to something else.

Next, try to download and install SR-1a directly, using the following page:

Download details: Office 2000 Service Release 1a (SR-1a):
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...03-7633-45B4-AB96-795EE656F2A2&displaylang=EN

SR-1/SR-1a Update:

Does that work?

Hi Susan,

Having gone into Word, in system Information Version
shows as; 5.1.2600 Service Pack 1 Build 2600:

Do I continue with your part 2 solution ?

That's odd. Are we still talking about Office 2000? Because that version
of Word should be 9.x.

Did you get this version information from Word's Help | About menu?

B

Barrie

Susan,

still did not work, did all you suggested; renamed file,
sought out download from location you specified; still
got same error message.

Hi, Barrie,

Would you please clarify the version information? It should be 9.something.

Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but after you downloaded the
SR-1a patch, did you run it from wherever you downloaded it to on your hard
drive? Did it give you the "Update did not complete successfully" error
again, and if you check the logfile, do you find the same error that
{filename} is an invalid size?

Sorry to jump in here months after this posted, but I'm
having some of the same problems and hope I can get
help. I get Internal Error 2349 and have the same text
files, versions, problems barrie had. What was the
answer from this point?
