office 2000 sr1 upgrade with noreboot

D

duncan cope

I am trying to upgrade our office 2000 to SP3 but first have to upgrade to
SR1. I need to deploy this to our terminal servers and want to force the
application not to reboot the server after deploying it.

I am using a deployment tool which needs to reboot the server itself
otherwise it thinks it has been interurpted and will fail.

When i try and install the patch with the /noreboot command the setup just
doesn't start.
i type the following and it works. setup.exe /qb
i type the following and it doesn't setup.exe /wb /noreboot

How can i get this patch not to reboot the server.

Hi Duncan,

I don't recall a way that you could guarantee that the Office 2000 SR1/1a Service Release won't require a restart. Your chances may
be less if you're using MS Installer v3, but Office 2000 had some unique requirements to install it to a Terminal Server (not needed
in later versions).

There were Office 2000 SR1 and Office 2000 SR2 product CDs (i.e. the updates were already built in) that you could use for
deployment or redeployment but those two may require a restart. This article on updating on Terminal Server/Terminal Services may
help [most Off 2000 support docs relate to Win2000 as WinXP didn't exist when Off 2000 was released]

Also check that you're using the updated Office 2000 setup program http://www.microsoft.com/office/orkarchive/2000ddl.htm#setupchn
from the toolbox in the Office 2000 resource kit (http://microsoft.com/office/ork/2000
