Office 2000 Standard Disk

I have a COMPAQ Presario with preloaded Microsoft Office
2000 software. I have a problem where the software is
giving me an error message asking me to insert the "Office
2000 Standard Disk." I don't have this disk because the
software was preloaded. I've called COMPAQ and the only
thing they have to offer is a disk that will wipe the
entire computer clean and restore it to it's orginal
software configuration. I don't want to do this because I
have other software on the machine. Is there any way that
I can obtain this disk directly from Microsoft? I want to
avoid having to turn around and buy a completely new copy
of Office 2000. Thanks for your help.

Nope. Microsoft do not, cannot and, indeed, will not assist with OEM
installed software - not now, not ever. Your only opetion is to pursue this
with Canon; if they can't/won't assist you, then you don't really have much
option. BTW, Office 2000 is no longer available retail - the previous
version is withdrawn when the next release hits the shelves - the only
version on sale now is 2003 (though you'll probably still find copies of XP
around). Be aware that 2003 *requires* Windows 2000 SP3 or later or Windows
XP. It will *not* install under any other version.

Sorry - but there's the rub...

Afraid your best bet is either to borrow an Office 2000 CD from someone (Not
sure if this would breach the license agreement since you are not *actually*
installing the software, just using the CD for a repair?); get a copy via
ebay (your best bet); or contact Compaq but since they became part of HP,
don't pin your hopes on that one!

Compaq is still - to all intents and purposes - a separate entity from HP -
and you call a different number for Compaq support. HP's just the parent
company.

You ever tried getting after sales support from the Bastards?

I'm aware that their TS isn't exactly exemplary, but that isn't Microsoft's
problem. The onus is on the OEM to support their installations.
