Office 2000 stops working and will not reinstall

HELP!, Office 2000 running on a Windows 98 2nd just
stopped working. Everytime I try to open one of the
applicaitions it goes to the Windows installer and
displays a message that "Windows installer failed to
install the program associatied with is file". When I try
to run the Office cd to reinstall it tells me that the
package patch could not be opened and to contact the
software vendor.

Anyone have any ideas?

I broke down and contacted one of the techs through
Keen. After $60.00 of support we figured out that the
last .NET update from Microsoft had screwed up the
registery and the installer - THANKS microsoft! Removed
three keys from the registery and reinstalled 2.x
installer and was able to reinstall Office. Wonder if I
could send Bill the bill?
