Office 2000 transfer

T

Tim Killeen

I have been using Office 2000 for three years. I bought
it when I bought my last pc. I am about to buy a new PC
and I was told that Windows XP will not allow me to
install my Office 2000 system on the new computer. In
fact, I'll have to buy a new Office system and it
will "live and die" with my new PC, and I will not be able
to use it on any other PC I might buy later.
I can't really believe this could be true. I feel that I
should be able to use the Office system I have on any new
computer I buy. Can anyone help me on this?

No, whoever told you that is lying. I bought a PC a few
months ago with Windows XP and i was able to install
Office 2000 Professional with no problems at all! It
works great!

You don't need to buy any new office suite! Good luck
with your new PC!;-)

No, they are not "lying."

If the Office suite was purchased with the computer from the OEM (Original
Equipment Manufacturer), it is tied to that machine and cannot be installed
on any other machine nor can the license be transferred.

The only possible use for the old software is if it is used as an upgrade
qualifying product for a newer version Upgrade package.
