Office 2000 under XP Pro

Installed XP Pro OS on new hard disk. Then installed Office 2000 and during
restart as part of the Office install, system halted and displayed "missing
operating system" error message. Is this the result of an incompatibility
between the OS and Office 2000? Does the XP operating system require Office
XP or later?

No ... something else. Office 2000 and XP are compatible and work well.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Tom W. Gunby,
Sorry to jump in, but did you update Windows XP Pro before you installed Office 2000?
If we install Office 2000 apps on XP Pro (running with either Office XP and / or Office 2003) its always before any OS updates / SP's are applied.
This has worked for us.

After installing Win XP, did you remember to go back into your BIOS and
change first boot device from "CD-ROM" to "Hard Disk 0"? If the first boot
device is CD-ROM, during reboot your system looks at the Office CD and,
finding no boot files, returns just such an error message.
