Office 2000 Update problem

When I try to use Office Update to apply the security
patches on one of our computers, it says "Error! Unable
to check for updates on this computer," followed by
several possible reasons and a couple suggestions.

I believe the most probable reason is the missing .MSP file
(s) because I can't do *anything* with Office 2000 Disk
1. I can't even run the Setup.exe to try to uninstall or
re-install the product. Disk 2 apparently has no problem.
I looked in the C:|Windows\Installer folder and see
two .MSI files and two .MSP files.
Although, I looked at another nearby computer with Office
installed and only saw four .MSI files - no .MSP files.

The computer is running Windows 98 and Office 2000
Professional, currently at SP-3 according to the help
screens in the applications.

I appreciate any help!
