Office 2000 update problems

Has anyone run into a problem where you install Office 2000 SR-1(with
SR1a) and the version numbers appear to be for SP 2 (ie. Word is
9.0.4402 SR-1) ? If you apply SP 2 it goes through the process as if
it's installing it and actually appears to install, and if you try and
install SP3 it will not install and I simply get an error "Update
Unsuccessful".

Any ideas?

Was this a clean (1st time) install of Office 2000
or did you previously have any of the Service Packs
installed?

How are you installing the updates and how was
Office 2000 installed?
