Office 2000 - Update/Remove

J

John Childs

I am using XP Home

I need to update my copy of Office 2000 (SR1a etc etc etc ...), but when
doing so the process requests that I insert the Original CD for Office
2000 professional.

My recollection of my historic Office upgrade process is:

1) Microsoft Office for Windows 95
2) Microsoft Office 97 Upgrade W95)
3) Microsoft Professional Office 97 (W95)
4) Microsoft Office 2000 (NOT Professional)Upgrade (using W98 at the time)

I have the original CDs for ALL of the above but am unable to locate any
CD(S) to do with Office 2000 Professional.

To get around my problem I attempted to remove Office 2000 professional
with the thought this would revert to a bare bones Office 2000) but this
was unsuccessful , once again the process asking for the Office 2000 Pro CD.
I'm stumped.

Assistance please

Hi, John,

Unfortunately, without those CDs, it will be nearly impossible to update
Office 2000. (Microsoft has learned from this: later versions of Office
don't require the CDs for most updates, but that doesn't do you a lot of
good right now, I realize...)

Office 2000 has a variety of versions (pro, standard, etc.), and there is
not upgrade or "crossgrade" capability between the versions. So,
uninstalling Office is uninstalling Office. Looking in the Add/Remove
Programs Control Panel applet will tell you which programs you have
installed, and this is what Office update uses to determine what to update.

Is it possible that you have Publisher, or another Office family program
installed that the update could be trying to apply to?
