Jabez Gan

Hey Gary,

You will need to have the same Office 2000 CD (the same CD when you install
Office 2000). Insert that same CD into your CD drive and try updating again.
See if it can find the file data1.msi.

If you cannot get old of the CD, please try the following which is provided
by MS Support:

Jabez,

It turns out that the Office 2000 install CD was dirty (or soimething).
Anyway, it was not being recognized by the system. Once cleaned, everything
ran fine. Thanks for the reply.

I am having the same problem as garyd. My CD is not dirty. I have the office
CD. As far as I know it is the one installed on my computer. It is Office
2000 with SP2.
1) How do I tell if it is exactly the same CD as is installed. Is there some
reference number I can comapre? When I bought the computer Office was
installed and this is the CD that came with it. I am not sure why it would be
different.
2) Is the only way to repair his by un-installing and re-installing office?
This seems like a very brut force method. Is there some work around to
install the updates?

Thanks,
Laura

Hi Laura,

When asked to insert the CD look at the bottom of the dialog
for the 'use Feature from' box. Is the name on the CD the
same as in that box? All Office 2000 family products had a
Data1.msi named file on CD#1, but it was a different file for
each product.

Check also that the product and edition name on the CD
is the same as the name listed in Add/Remove Programs in the
Windows control Panel.
