Office 2000 wont install after Eraser

L

Laura

My win98 recently crashed and I had to reinstall Win98.
Of course Office 2000 was hosed up, but it will not
reinstall. When you try to run setup, I get a dialog
box 'Windows Installer Preparing to install...' but then
it disappears and nothing happens. I've tried rebooting
and retrying with no avail. I used Eraser to delete 2000,
but still no luck. Any ideas?

You need to do a clean install of both Win98 and Office 2000. I suggest use a hard disk cleaner from:

http://www.killdisk.com

And when your disk is completely clean, start with Win98 installation and then Office 2000. This way you are certain there is no trace of Microsoft product on your system. However, please ensure that Win98 and Office 2000 are not upgrade products otherwise you will be chasing the goose looking for respective qualifying products.

Also make sure you have all the necessary serials before you embark on this monstrous task. Don't forget, you are dealing with Uncle Bill's products which are not as simple as he claims to be otherwise we won't have Newsgroups such as this one!!

Hope this helps.
