I installed a trial version of Word 2003 and decided I don't want to
purchase. So, I uninstalled Office 2000 Professional and reinstalled it. All
programs are working accept Word 2000. When I click program the hour glass
lingers. I have installed updates to office 2000, however the program still
does not work. HELP!!!!

Hello TF,

I believe I accurately followed instructions in the below link. I was able
to open word under "Run" winword.exe /a. However, when searched for
normal.dot this was found in the template folder. There are no files in the
"Start-up" folder. So, I renamed normal.dot to normal.old and copied to
"Startup" folder. However, I am still unable to open Word. This is so
strange. The other person that has access to my computer(Windows XP) can open
word normally with no problems.
Any other suggestions for me.

Absolutely do not put Normal.dot in your Startup folder! This will cause
even more problems.

Normal.dot should only EVER be in Documents and Settings, Username,
Application Data, Microsoft, Template folder. Find normal.dot and rename is
as normal.bad. Make sure that Startup is empty. test again.

Unfortunately, I still can't open Word after changing normal.old to
normal.bad. Any other suggestions?

Have you followed all the steps in
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm ? What you are
describing is almost certainly an add-in. See this FAQ for further
information:
