Office 2000 word

I had a virus on my system a few days ago (wiped out my XP). I had it
repaired and my data retrieved. I loaded Office 2000 back on my system, but
some of my word docs only show squares and page brakes. I have to get these
files back (some really important work related docs). Can anyone help me
correct this problem so I can access/read my word files. Thank you in advance

This is usually an indication that they have corrupted by the backup
procedure or media. Test by opening them in WordPad. If they still comprise
all squares it is a sure sign that they are corrupted beyond rescue.
