Office 20007 Install Error 1402

I am trying to install Office 2007 Ultimate on a Windows Vista 32 bit machine
and am having a lot of problems with permissions.

I had Office installed but went to export my PST folders to back up and got
an error. I don't remember the error but I tried to repair Office and it did
nothing. I tried to uninstall using Add Remove and would get error 1402
messages, I then went to MS KB to remove Office without Add remove and i
guess it worked. I also tried several times to clean registry with WINaso
Regcleaner and CCleaner to get rid of errors.

I then tried to install and I get a lot of error 1402 errors for no
permission on registry keys. I know how to take ownership and change
permissions but I have been doing this for two days. How many I have changed
I do not know but it seems to never get done. I keep getting a new registry
key to change permissions every time I try to install, its like my registry
forgot all its permissions.

Any suggestions, and please do not tell me to run as admin, just keep
plugging away changing each one individually, I have changed like hndreds and
it still will not install.

You dont export pst's to backup, with outlook closed you simply copy them to
some other location. Or use the free MS Outlook backup addin

What type of account are you attempting to install Office on? a limited user
account maybe?
Whats wrong with 'run as admin'?

IMO using any registry cleaner is fraught with danger, and can lead to more
problems than are cured

Thanks for no help, Sorry if you don't like reg cleaners But I Need them. I
review comp hardware and software and am constantly loading and deleting
programs and have to clean out the junk. I know how to use them safely. This
is not about the reg cleaner, its about permissions.

Run as Admin does not work, I am using an admin account, I never use
anything else on my computer, I am the only one using it. I am trying to load
office 2007 and getting error 1402 continuously. I fix one registry
permission and get another. I have been loading this for two days now and not
getting to the end is frustrating.

As far as don't export pst's I will back up how I want and you do it your
way. Sorry if I sound angry but I did not ask about how to export or why I
use reg cleaners I asked how to fix installation errors without having to
change every registry permission that Office 2007 MSI uses.

I do not like whne people go onto these forums and do not give answers to
the questions people ask, I understand you are trying to help but giving
advice about everything but the problem is not helping me at all, and there
are plenty of others who have had this problem without any solution other
than to change permissions individually.

please help with problem.

I am not aware of any other way to correct the permissions in the registry.

There may be a way to streamline the procedure somewhat, if you have access
to a registry cleaner. I do not approve or advocate the use of registry
cleaners, however in this case you may find it useful. Here's what to do:

Start your registry cleaner. Do NOT make any of the changes it wants to
make. Instead, write down all the registry keys and subkeys it cannot
access. Then close your registry cleaner. Now you will be able to change
permissions in the registry key by key, instead of starting to install
Office and stopping again.

Thanks for the idea, I may just try that.

As far as registry cleaners I have been using the two I use regularly for
years now and have not had any problems with them. I would be lost without
the help of something to clean out my registry as I uninstall a lot of stuff
I put on for reviewing. Games alone account for two or three installs a month.

I do not yet understand how and why this happens, but you will find the
problem described in the Microsoft knowledgebase here:

"You receive an error message when you install an Office program or open an

I had to modify literally dozens of registry keys before Office would
install. (If you are careful then you can extended permissions to child keys
and subkeys.)

The same lack of permissions that prevents you from installing Office
prevents a registry cleaner from doing what it wants to do. If your registry
cleaner shows you a list of keys it could not access, and if you are savvy
enough to know which of those keys belong to Office, you can save yourself
some time by not having to install Office over and over just to find out
which registry keys the Windows Installer could not access.

I won't comment any further on the value of registry cleaners.

P.S. Make a list of those keys whose permissions you have to change. You
might need to refer to it again in the future. (But hopefully not!)

I am having this same problem. How is it that I cannot install the Microsoft
flagship product of Office 2007 in Windows Vista. This is beyond belief. I am
not interest in going into the registry of messing around with registry
cleaners or setting. After paying hundreds of dollars for these two products
I expect then to WORK. Pathetic Microsoft!
