Office 2001, MacOS 9.2.2, Word, Epson

I am using a G4 Powermac running Mac OS 9.2.2. When running Word from
Office 2001 for Mac, and trying to print to my Epson Color Stylus
740i, I experience HUGE delays.

Typically, when I hit the 'print' command, there is a delay of 5-7
minutes (!) before I get a print window. I assume this is the result
of some softward conflict somewhere but have been unable to learn
(from Microsoft, Apple, or Epson) where the conflict may lie.

If anyone has a clue I would be most appreciative

Thanks,

Alan,

Are you booting up into 9.2.2 or are you running Classic emulation under OS
X?

Am booting into 9.2.2.

It's probably not a software conflict, per se (or else you wouldn't
get the print dialog at all). I suspect it's either an out-of-date
print driver (check with the manufacturer) or you don't have enough
memory allocated.

Word needs to pull the whole print driver into it's allocated memory
in order to print. With Word closed, select the application icon and
choose File/Get Info/Memory. Leave the "minimum" allocation alone.
Set the "preferred" allocation higher. I used to use 48MB as a
general setting, which was good for medium-sized (50 pages or less
without a lot of graphics) docs. Set the "preferred" setting even
higher (if you can) if you have much larger docs (say 10MB or more).

In addtion, make sure you've applied all the updates found at

OK, set the memory for 50 megabites, looked for and installed updates
to Office 2001 generally and Word in particular, last time I checked,
the Epson software had not updated since the advent of Mac OSX . . .

And Word is still slow as molasses on a cold morning . .

Anybody got any further information?
