Office 2001 on OS X?

I have a older MAC that is running OS 9 and I use MS
Office 2001. Now I want to replace this older computer
with a G5 and was wondering if the office 2001 will still
work on OS X?

The entire faculty at our school has just upgraded to OSX, on brand
new G4 Powerbooks, yet our district (which has mandated that
eventually all schools will be running OSX) is still using Outlook
2001 as our e-mail program. We haven't had any problems other than
the common ones that occur when running Outlook over a network. My G4
Desktop has trouble running 'classic' period, but with the G5 you
should be fine.

You shouldn't be having problems running Classic on a G4, and having a G5
will make no difference whatsoever. However, the OS versions of both OS X
and of the Classic installation might well make a difference. If you don't
have at least OS 10.2.8, upgrade to that. If you are in Panther, update to
10.3.2. Accessing Outlook 2001 may be a lot easier in Panther if you have
any sort of firewall on Exchange Server, since the VPN setup is much better.

Also it may make a difference which version of OS 9 you have installed for
Classic. Anything from OS 9.1 on should be fine. 9.1 might be best if you
sometimes boot from it on your G4, but OS 9.2.2 is best for Classic from OS
X. (The G5 comes with OS 9.2.2 in the Applications sector of the DVD
Installer, and you can't boot from OS 9 anyway.) It could be that accessing
Outlook 2001 in Classic is better with Classic as 9.2.2, but I shouldn't
have thought it mattered.

Panther is probably a good idea here.
