I'm having a problem accessing Word and Excel documents with Office 2003 on
an NT 4 server. The Office installation is local.
Word gives an "Insufficient Memory" error when I try to browse to the server
when opening documents.
Excel doesn't give any error, it simply doesn't do anything.
I can access documents if I map a folder to a drive letter, but I have no
luck accessing files via the UNC.
Here's a few more details.
The problem has been reproduced on two separate WinXP Pro boxes that are
fully patched. The problem only happens in Office 2003. There are no
problems with Office 97, 2000, or XP. The server is WinNT 4, with all SP's.
This is a problem for me, because my company's users all store their
documents on this NT4 server. I can't roll out and new machines with Office
2003 on them until this problem is resolved.
My network only has about 40-50 users on it.
I know, I know...I should move away from Win NT, and that will be happening,
just not real soon.
