Office 2003 activated but now declared invalid

I have had Office 2003 activated and on my computer for 3 years. I have
downloaded many updates both online and automatic. Now when the download
attempts to install I get a message that I have an "invalid" product. How do
I correct this with Microsoft? How could it become invalid overnight?

screwed

I'm having the same problem as of today 7/11/2007. I know my Office 2003 is
properly activated and no changes to my system have been made.

I figured Microsoft would screw the "genuine product" check up and sure
enough they have.

Nothing at these links address the problem. My Office 2003 is already
activated and will not allow me to reactivate. I don't know what happens if
you reload the software but I don't have time to fool with reloading all my
documents etc. I have run the fix in Outlook, Excel and Word and no problems
appear.

The weird part of this whole thing is it was "validated" about a month ago! I
guess we will just have to wait. I refuse to pay $49 to report the problem.
Microsoft makes it extremely difficult to report errors.

Update on status:
After going online with Microsoft support, trying 5 different fixes and then
actually speaking to Microsoft Support the answer is we are all screwed.
They"claim" my product is only for use in schools and the government???
Although my disks came with my computer etc etc etc. They will not
revalidate the product (although it was validated June 12, 2007) and if you
want upgrades you must purchase the "New" Office. I am positive I have a
legitimate copy of Office Professional 2003. I have now checked with several
other people who also have the product and guess what.....they suddenly are
getting the same message. As usual, Microsfot makes sure its users have to
spend as much money as possible. The downloads are minor and I can live
without them.

screwed

Microsoft fixed this problem. No mention of any fix anywhere that I can find
but today I tried the "Office Update" again and the problem no longer exists.
I passed the validation this time and updated my Office 2003 Pro.
Previously the not activated error message would stop me. I have made no
changes to my system but now the update works.

I can't get an answer to my problems either and my Office 2003 was
perfectly legal too. It's exasperating and irritating. I used to
defend MS, but not any longer !

You might want to actually read the message to which you replied.

Oh I did and several others and I checked back much further in order
to see if I could find it in FAQs, but there is nothing specific. My
computer is still wanting to download these updates, still says it
can't, then wants to install them when I turn it off.

I tried at ms.public.office - no luck and it was a pretty empty group,
someone pointed me here and I asked my question but no answers.

I can assure you I realised this was not the same question I was
posing, but I had hoped it might finally attract some answers.

IF you want assistance with an issue, start your own thread. In it,
explain the version you have, what the problem is, and any error
messages and other pertinent info. In this instance all you did was tack
a "me too" "rant" on the end of a thread where the problem was
resolved/closed.
