Office 2003 and 2007 on same computer?

Having seen the size of my tax refund, wait-- I mean, having decided that I
really do need to upgrade from Office 2003, I've decided to try out Office
2007 (MS' 60-day free trial), on the same computer that is running Office
2003. I saw the linked to page indicating there might be some problems
running two versions of Word on the same computer:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/928091

It showed a registry hack, but then said it might cause problems.

Any advice here? I'd uninstall 2K3 but Office is a pain to re-install so I'd
like to see if I could just keep both versions installed at the same time.

I've had both 2003 and 2007 installed at the same time. The only issue is
that you can only have one version of Outlook installed. Make sure that you
change the default installation location so that nothing is overwritten.

OK I can do that, but won't 2007 install in its own folder, Office 12? I was
thinking that this wouldn't be an issue....

It shouldn't be. The registry hack is only necessary to prevent Word from
attempting to "register" itself every time it starts up. If you don't mind
a little delay while you are starting up the program, then it shouldn't be
necessary. Later, after the 60-day trial runs out, if you decide to keep
both versions of Office then you could apply it.

I have an Inspiron 1501 with 2 GB, AMD 64 X2 1.80 GHz. Office 2007 runs
well on it under either XP or Vista.

Same here. Office Ultimate 2007 and Office 2003 Prof coexist quite
peaceably (minus Outlook 2003)

The registry entry to prevent re-registering a different version on opening
works well.

AMD Athlon 1.8GHz 2GB RAM, XP Prof.

So far so good. I installed it last night and d/l SP1 as well as the
export-to-PDF utility. No problems either way, and even w/o the registry
fix, it doesn't take long at all for 2007 to load.

I'm not quite sure I'm going to be used to the new menu options though. I've
already made the ribbons disappear, but navigating around the new menus is
gonna take some time. Oh well I guess that's why they made it a 60-day trial.
