office 2003 and handwriting

Is it possible to user handwriting in Office 2003 and get
handwriting recognition to work without using a Tablet PC?

I've been browsing the help files for Office and they
keep mentioning the "Drawing Pad" or "Write Anywhere"
box. Are these things specific to the Tablet PC OS? I
can't find them anywhere. And when using OneNote2003 I
can't get the handwriting recognized.

Hi Christopher,

Handwriting is available on the desktop editions of
MS Office XP/2002 and 2003. It is not as capable as
the MS Ink features available on the tablet PC but it
can be done with input devices such as a Wacom brand
tablet )or if you're very good with a mouse <g>)

To use it, install the 'Alternate Input' features from
the Microsoft Office listing in Add/remove programs in
the Windows control panel and use Tools=>Speech in
Word to bring up the Language toolbar that includes the
draw and handwriting control features. You should then
find Write Anywhere, Writing Pad and Drawing Pad choices
available to you.

Thanks for the help! That did work for me. My only problem is that this handwriting recognition software clearly isn't built into the OneNote software. I have to use the language bar portion of handwriting in order to get recognition in OneNote. OneNote has a built in writing function, which is supposed to include recognition. Apparently this only works with a Tablet PC. I'm not sure I understand why one way works and one doesn't

However I've posted these concerns to the OneNote message boards

Thanks again for your help
