Office 2003 and Locked Files error messages

Ok. We upgraded 5 PCs on our 20 PC network to Windows XP
Professional SP1 and installed purchased, licensed copies
of Office Professional 2003. Now, all of a sudden, we are
having issues opening documents. The error message says
that the files we are trying to open are in use by another
user, yet that user has not turned on his/her PC since the
upgrade.

HELP!

I found this searching for a similar problem a couple of my user's
have. They are working on files located on servers or remote
machines. Do you have the same kind of problem or are the files
local? Perhaps more occurences of your problem will generate a need
for someone to figure out an answer. ;-)

FWIW we have XP with office 2K installed. The systems worked fine with
NT4 and Office 97. After they were upgraded the problem started
cropping up. Any help would be appreciated.
